My cousin MERRY makes beautiful Family Trees!

My cousin MERRY has recently started a new venture. We have been researching our shared BEAGARY-LANDERS ancestry for about six years. I told her about my blog and said I would be happy to make an announcment about her Family Trees. Here is what she sent for me to include in my blog!

Hi Jacki,

I would love you to tell your bloggers about my new venture, FamilyAncesTrees. I have a beautiful, original 5 generation Family Tree Chart that I will create either by an uploaded GEDCOM or completed chart. Each leaf entry contains a name with birth and death dates and locations. The Tree is 13" x 10" and fits into a standard 20" x 16" frame and mat.

I also offer to work together with the client, to search available online databases, in an effort to fill as many leaves as possible.

It's really a very special gift for a wedding, anniversary, shower, or birthday, a wonderful family or reunion project, or a beautiful display of dedicated research.

Please send them to have a look at: http://www.familyancestrees.com/

Any questions: Merry@FamilyAncesTrees.com

Thanks so much!

Cousin Merry

Some valuable FREE resources for Genealogy Research.

Here are wonderful FREE resources I use all day long.

Tip for the day. Learn how to write up a great post. Always remember the 5 W's. Who-What-Where-When & Why!

Ways to see how people write up good posts can be found in the archives of Rootsweb boards & mailing lists and on Genforum. Study them and get to work posting your own. I began to do this right away as soon as I discovered these great FREE boards and lists and am have become a prolific poster. I cannot tell you how many mysteries have been solved using these resources. (if you GOOGLE search my name you will get an idea of how busy I have been for the last 7 years posting)

Here are some great resources - save them to your FAVORITE PLACES.

All three can be used for both surnames and locations:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/surnames/
http://boards.rootsweb.com/Default.aspx
http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/

Next:

GOOGLE - the greatest thing to come along in years for genealogy researchers.

I GOOGLE search everyone and everything. Always try your names here first.

http://www.google.com/

Next: check GOOGLE BOOKS:

http://books.google.com/

Last but not least - the GOOGLE NEWS ARCHIVE:

http://news.google.com/archivesearch

Save all three to FAVORITE PLACES (this is what I have on AOL) so they are at your fingertips when you need them.

Check out FAMILY SEARCH: many of these records must be really researched because they were sent in by family member with no documentation, but some have been extracted from state records and as a rule are valid.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true

Next check out your name in WORLDCONNECT Rootsweb.

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi

Check your local library to see if they have HERITAGE QUEST. If you live in a small town see if the state library has access. HERITAGE quest will allow you to search the 1850-1920 census and untold books online for FREE with a library card number.

You really can do a lot of genealogy research for free. I did this when I first began and finally reached the point where I had to join Ancestry.com which is a fantastic database.

Check the local LDS Family History Center in your area. I have never used the LDS much myself. I live in a rural area. These Family History Centers have great resources as a rule and you can order microfilm through them if they don't have what you are seeking. They are very helpful to new researchers.

Hope these tips will help you on your way. I think genealogy research is a very intuitive pursuit. I think outside the box and this has been helpful too.

I will add more tips as time goes on.

Death notice ERNESTINE ABERCROMBIE.

DEATHS Page 5.

Deceased: ERNESTINE A. FIELD; (note: died March 23, 1890)
FIELD - On the ( ) instant, ERNESTINE A. FIELD widow of the late JOHN FIELD and sister of the late GENERAL JOHN J. ABERCROMBIE, in the 96th year of her age.
The relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services this morning at 8:30 o'clock, from 1723 North Tenth street. High mass at ST. MALACHY's Church.
Interment private.

The discovery of ERNESTINE ABERCROMBIE's death record in 1890 Philadelphia, solves mystery!

This is not a new discovery ~ but certainly was one of my most important.
ERNESTINE's son CHARLES J. FIELD was my 2-great grandfather who died (served for NJ) in Civil War. I knew little about this part of my family history other than his mother was known as KATIE FIELD and was a beloved family member, the mother of my grandfather RAYMOND FIELD RUSSELL of Worcester.
I began to research this family by finding them in the 1850 census. Luckily around this time I contacted the MORGAN of Worcester knowing that there was a connection to our RUSSELL family, but I wasn't sure how. I was sent a genealogy that included PETER SLIM and VINCENT BEAGARY that included CHARLES J. FIELD and ELIZABETH PAUL BEAGARY, that gave his father's name as JOHN FIELD and mother as ERNESTINE A.

After exhausting my census research. I decided to send for CHARLES J. FIELD's Civil War Pension file to see if his birth record and mother's maiden name would be listed. It was not. So, I sent for his brother THEODORE FRANCIS FIELD's Civil War Pension File (both brothers records were listed in Ancestry.com) THEODORE FRANCIS FIELD's Civil War Pension File was over 65 pages long and had his Philadelphia Catholic Baptismal record listing his mother as ERNESTINA ABERCROMBIE. I had a maiden name at last for her!

From that information I rushed to post to the ABERCROMBIE board on Rootsweb (or Genforum) and within a day or two heard back from a long time ABERCROMBIE researcher BRENDA ABERCROMBIE LEDET. She was convinced she knew who my ERNESTINE was from her location and given name which was a special name in the family of JOHN JOSEPH ABERCROMBIE and SARAH DENORMANDIE. JJA's mother's name was ERNESTINE, and I have found this name was carried down in. I found it very intriguing as this was a very interesting family to be connected with, but I needed more proof before I could attach my ERNESTINE to it.

http://home.earthlink.net/~baledet/atempt_2/text/SarahDenormandiePeterAy.html

It took some years before I found the proof I needed and I have www.GenealogyBank.com to thank for it. I knew that the family of JOHN JOSEPH ABERCROMBIE and SARAH DENORMANDIE included a son JJA, JR., who became a Brig. Gen. in the Civil War., so when I found this death notice one day - my mystery had been solved!

ERNESTINE had been baptized as an Episcopalian, but as an adult she converted to Catholicism. (I was so fortunate she did this as had she not I might never have found important records on her and this family)

My next find was ERNESTINE's first marriage found in GOOGLE BOOKS.

NATIONAL GENEALOGY SOCIETY QUARTERLY - MARCH 1924 Vol. X111 Number 1.
KENTUCKY MARRIAGE RECORDS - JEFFERSON COUNTY, 1800 - 1826MARRIAGES - by REV. WM JEFFERSON GAMMON, Wilmore, Ky., R. D.
No. 2.1569. PEARSON, ROBERT H. C., 5, 18, 1812, ERNESTINE ABERCROMBIE, dau. JOHN J.

The next step was to contact the National Genealogy Society and did they have great news for me. They had 18-19 pages of genealogy research done on the descendants of ANDRE DENORMANDIE including information on ERNESTINE and her mother SARAH DENORMANDIE. This really was an amazing genealogy adventure which took me back to the 1400s France, but more about that later.

My first and most amazing discovery in February of 2002 ABIGAIL (DANE) FAULKNER convicted Salem Witch was my 7-great grandmother.

Photo is of my 2-great grandfather GEORGE WASHINGTON RUSSELL

With the help of my distant cousin CINDY who discovered one of my very first posts to the Worcester County Rootsweb board about some of my 2-great grandfather's (GEORGE WASHINGTON RUSSELL) children. They were children he had with his first wife, SUSAN MARIA FAULKNER.

CINDY is a descendant of FRANCIS FAULKNER and ABIGAIL DANE through their daughter DOROTHY who married SAMUEL NOURSE, JR. CINDY had great CD's of Massachusetts Vital Records and with her help I was able to find my FAULKNER line, not through first wife SUSAN MARIA, but through her niece, CATHERINE EMILY SMITH who was G.W.R's second wife and my 2-great grandmother.

This discovery took my breath away when I realized the horror she must have endured as a convicted witch. (she was saved from hanging because she was pregnant with my 6-great grandfather, AMMI RUHAMAH FAULKNER)
ABIGAIL DANE and FRANCIS FAULKNER were wealthy farmers of Andover, MA., she was the daughter of Andover's minister, REV. FRANCIS DANE. It was quite a discovery to make so early on in my research. I was pretty shell shocked for weeks and almost couldn't believe it. I really did a ton of research on this family to be absolutely sure of the accuracy and in the process learned a lot about genealogy research.

ABIGAIL's page is on my website (also there is a lot about her on the Internet). Truly a book should be written about the Witch history of the family of REV. FRANCIS DANE. Many family members were caught up in this hysteria. This family is mentioned in many books but so far not one book has been devoted to them.

A very nice discovery this week was another DENORMANDIE.

She was SARAH DENORMANDIE. She was the daughter of JOHN ABRAHAM DENORMANDIE and ELIZA P. ATKINSON. SARAH married
JAMES W. REMICK. I found them in GOOGLE Books while searching for an item on my 4-great grandmother SARAH (DENORMANDIE) PETER ABERCROMBIE. My tip for the day is to keep searching in GOOGLE books.
New items are added there all the time. I have had fantastic finds from this fabulous resource. Here is book item found. Census researched verified who SARAH was and how she fit into the family of Descendants of ANDRE DENORMANDIE of Bucks County, PA.

My biggest discover this month! The LAMBERTS finally are coming!

I have worked on my elusive LAMBERT's of Reading, MA., for seven long years. My 5-great grandmother was MARY LAMBERT. She was born in Reading, MA., in 1734. Her birth records were listed in both Reading and Wakefield, MA. Problematic was that the Reading record listed her mother as MARY. There was only one LAMBERT family living in Reading in this era. THOMAS LAMBERT and ELIZABETH NICHOLS who had a child a child before MARY and others afterward. This left me in a kind of limbo for years. UNTIL last week. I happened to go into the GOOGLE NEWS ARCHIVE and discovered two amazing posts to the Boston Evening Transcript (a most valuable genealogy column was carried in this paper for years).

I first discovered a post by (J.S.R.) my 2-great granduncle JAMES SULLIVAN RUSSELL (my 2-great grandfather's older brother) who was an accomplished genealogy researcher. I find items by him from time to time.
He (J.S.R) was born in Carlisle, MA., in 1807 and was school teacher in Lowell for something like 45 years. JAMES sent in an item on our LAMBERT family of Reading on Aug. 1, 1899, AND a little over one week later on Aug. 9, 1899, a follow up item appeared giving information from a family bible that lists my MARY's birth and death date (that I didn't) have.
This item was singed M.D.S. (wish I knew who this was)

These two items squarely place MARY as the daughter of THOMAS LAMBERT and ELIZABETH (not MARY) NICHOLS. I have been finding tons of their descendants ever since. I will update my website this weekend with all the new information.

Here are the wonderful posts from the even more wonderful Boston Evening Transcript:

This is my first blog!

I will try to post interesting research I am in the midst of doing or have completed and also hope to give tips on how I solved genealogy puzzles.
Not sure how often I will contribute items because research is my first love and consumes most of my time. I love to share information!
